Hyderabad | 27 October 2026 | 7:00 PM | The MANUU Students Collective organised a solidarity gathering at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, in support of the students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). During the gathering, students raised their voices in support of the demands of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union (JMISU) and against the alleged militarisation of the campus. A large number of students participated in the gathering and expressed solidarity with the ongoing struggle of Jamia students.
Aqib Ashraf and Ameer Hamza from the Department of MCJ, Muraquib Umar and Iftekhar from the Department of Law, and Ibrahim Junaidi from the MANUU Students Collective addressed the gathering.
Ibrahim Junaidi stated that Jamia Millia Islamia has been without a students’ union for the past 20 years. He said that when students are demanding the restoration of their union and asserting their democratic rights, the administration is taking action against them instead of listening to their concerns. He further alleged that the deployment of police had created an atmosphere resembling a militarised zone on the campus.
PhD scholar, Swaleh Ansari, expressed solidarity with the students fighting for the restoration of the students’ union at Jamia Millia Islamia. He said that the MANUU Students Collective stands firmly with the protesting students. He strongly condemned the reported conduct of the Jamia administration and its teaching and non-teaching staff towards the students, which he described as highly deplorable. He emphasised that a teacher’s responsibility is to listen to students and understand their concerns, rather than subjecting them to such treatment. He also stressed the need to safeguard students’ dignity, democratic rights and the right to peaceful protest.

Shahla Nigar, an M.A. Political Science student, expressed concern over reports that food and drinking water were being withheld from protesting students. She stated that the administration’s responsibility is to listen to students’ demands and find solutions through dialogue, rather than obstructing access to essential supplies and putting students’ safety at risk.
The students participating in the gathering expressed their solidarity with the protesting students of Jamia and called upon the administration to take their democratic demands seriously. They emphasised the need for dialogue and respectful treatment of students.
At the conclusion of the gathering, the participants resolved that if the Jamia administration and Delhi Police failed to address the students’ demands and continued their actions against the protesters, the MANUU Students Collective would organise further protests. They declared that their struggle and solidarity would continue until the students’ demands were addressed and the demand for the restoration of the students’ union received due consideration.
